Tea is the 2nd most consumed beverage in the world. Even if it’s the 2nd most consumed beverage in general I’ve seen people make these 4 mistakes with tea.
#1 By putting boiling water over tea
Number 1: The first mistake is to put boiling water over your tea. You do want hot water on your tea but not too hot. The reasons are, 1 it burns the tea leaves and makes the flavor bitter. 2 You can’t drink it when it’s that hot so you over steep the tea leaves or you burn your mouth. If the kettle that you are using only has one mode wait a little bit until it cools down.
Number 2: Throwing away your tea leaves. If you’re using loose-leaf tea you can steep this up to 3 times before the flavor is gone.
Number 3: Over steeping your leaves. Each tea has a specific time it needs to be steeped. When you over steep your tea it becomes more bitter and it ruins the flavor of the leaves.
Number 4: If you are using a loose tea you may be using too much tea. Look on the back of your package to see how much they suggest, but I suggest 1 to 2 teaspoons of tea leaves per 1 cup of water.
